Golden Idea

While at my last wedding, there was a 21-22 year old with a beautiful ring on her ring finger. I automatically assumed it was an engagement ring, and asked when is her pending nuptials. The beautiful and bubbly brunette politely corrected me, and told me it was a promise ring from her parents. It was a small, but lovely diamond; in fact, I teased that it was better than my simple (yet endearing) wedding band. I was instantly enamored with her. How often is it that we meet a 20 something year old that is proud to be a virgin, and that wears it on their sleeve… Well hand, openly? She shared how her parents took her to dinner before presenting it to her; and her father’s main focus was to show her how she deserves to be treated by a guy. This girl blew me away. Without being arrogant and snobbish, she knew her worth, and that she deserved it. She was sure of it. I came home inspired. Inspired as a parent and as a makeup artist.

So, to sum things up, I am very much so thinking about buying my daughter a purity/promise ring. She’s very excited about the idea, and this is something that means a lot to both of us. Yes, she’s only ten… But we’ve had the talk… The do nots and why nots. You have to nowadays. If you don’t, then someone will; whether it’s their peers, television, or yes… social media. What are your thoughts on purity rings? Are they not realistic? Too much pressure? Or a golden idea? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
